"A significant player in the early 21st century's post-hardcore scene, Thursday formed in 1997 in New Brunswick, NJ. Led by vocalist Geoff Rickly, the band's initial lineup also included bassist Tim Payne, drummer Tucker Rule, and guitarists Steve Pedulla and Tom Keeley. After issuing their debut, 1999's Waiting, through the New York-based indie label Eyeball Records, the band signed to Chicago's influential Victory label for 2001's Full Collapse. Tours alongside Boy Sets Fire and Sparta helped support the album, which cracked the Billboard 200 at number 178. Thursday's frequent gigging and furious passion fueled a grassroots response, and by 2002, the band was on the main stage of the Warped Tour and enjoying MTV support for the single "Understanding in a Car Crash."
Thursday signed to Island Records in the wake of their breakthrough success, although they issued the 2002 live EP Five Stories Falling through Victory as a placeholder for their impending major-label debut. The ambitious song arc of War All the Time arrived in September 2003 and was met with considerable critical acclaim for its ruminations on 9/11, its personal lyrics, and a wildly shifting, kitchen-sink approach to pensive post-hardcore. Having played keyboards on the album, Andrew Everding was later added as a full-time member.
First taking some time off for themselves, the re-energized musicians then headed back into the studio with producer Dave Fridmann (the Flaming Lips, Mogwai). A City by the Light Divided, "the album that almost never was," appeared in May 2006, followed by a tour supporting both the album and the Shirts for a Cure organization.
Thursday's next project was a split album with the Japanese band Envy, which arrived in late 2008. That same year also saw the band inking a new deal with Epitaph Records. Reprising their relationship with Dave Fridmann, the group retreated to the studio to record Common Existence, which melded their post-hardcore swagger with new elements of indie rock and New Wave. Common Existence was released by Epitaph in early 2009, and Thursday joined the Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour in support of the project." - Johnny Loftus, AllMusicGuide
"Is Survived By" is the anticipated new album from Touche Amore, produced and engineered by Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc) and mastered by Hans DeKline (Lisa Loeb, mewithoutYou, etc)."Is Survived By" shows Touche Amore embracing a maturation of their trademark melancholy. The sounds are welcomingly familiar; inspired percussion amid a sea of imaginative guitars and impassioned vocals. However, the underlying unrest is more complex and touching than any previous Touche Amore release before it. Simply put, these are not simple "love" songs that dwell in the past, but complex "life" songs about living in the present. Throughout the entire album vocalist/lyricist Jeremy Bolm digs deeper in search of personal catharsis, allowing us to relate to his drive to be clearly heard, truly understood, and unapologetically remembered. "Is Survived By" not only shows growth in subject matter but musicianship for Touche Amore. The jangly guitar work of Clayton Stevens and Nick Steinhardt is on a new level here. Throughout the release they effortlessly entangle one another to construct beautiful yet unexpected melodies. While the explosive rhythm section of Tyler Kirby and Elliot Babin shines in the frenetic pace they keep. Achieving a stunning balance of hook laden listenability and emotion. Without question, "Is Survived By" is another masterwork from Touche Amore. More importantly, it is a release that lives up to the promise of past releases while not repeating it. Not a departure, but a continuation down the remarkable road that they alone travel.
Since abruptly announcing an indefinite hiatus only weeks after the release of 2012's breakthrough LP Colourmeinkindness, Basement's intensely devoted following has only grown. Promise Everything is the band's full-length return to writing and recording since the break. Challenged by the spacing out of members not only across the country - but across the globe - Promise Everything was written by piecing together songs without the luxury of a space or even a time zone to share. Perhaps this is why upon listening, Promise Everything feels like a conversation between different people, revealing different moods and feelings throughout. This conversation shifts and evolves, filtering subtle, tasteful alternative rock touchstones through the band's unmatched melodic lens. More clearly aggressive songs like "Brother's Keeper" and title track "Promise Everything" situate Basement at the forefront of the rock world, pairing that aggression with an inherent sense of melody. On the standout track "Aquasun," lyrical flow and melody overtake the listener while overt meaning gives way to musicality and its nuance. Despite years spent apart, it would seem Basement's musical conversation has been one that has lingered even when after it was interrupted too soon by their premature & luckily temporary break, and as their first true cohesive document, Promise Everything is only the beginning of what Basement has to say.
WAX IDOLS straddle the line between ripping tough/tender post-punk/goth-pop, and irresistibly anthemic indie rock hooks. So it comes as no surprise that the band has recently signed to Slumberland Records, with a full-length LP set to drop just days before this show. (And produced by Mark Burgess of The Chameleons, no less!) Led by the enigmatically agitated Heather Fedewa (aka Hether Fortune, ex-Hunx & His Punx, Bare Wires, and also currently a member of CastleFace Records' Blasted Canyons).
